Report Summary

In 2022, CMGJ launched the Gender-Migration Index (GMI), a policy guidance tool that centers lived experiences of women, girl, LGBTQIA+, and gender diverse migrants by strengthening civil society engagement in international review processes. The index was based on an indicator system that ensures gender-responsiveness and migrant-inclusion in benchmarking policy, particularly in regards to monitoring and evaluation. Through a multi-stakeholder approach, the GMI shrunk spaces between migrant communities and governing bodies, and promoted dialogue and information-sharing by facilitating feedback and consultation mechanisms.Additionally, the 16 Days of Activism against GBV campaign addressed GBV experienced by women migrant workers with a geographical focus on Europe. The campaign raised awareness around the International Labor Organization (ILO) Convention C190 (C190) on violence and harassment in the world of work.
On International Youth Day 2023, CMGJ launched the Youth Engagement Academy (YEA!) which trains migrant youth (18-30 years) for collective action at the intersection of migration and gender. The goals of YEA! are to exchange and enhance knowledge, develop and strengthen advocacy skills, and build community by fostering a sense of belonging and care amongst migrant youth. As part of the YEA!, CMGJ offers fellowships and internships, as well as hosting its Migrant Youth Advocacy Training (MYAT) and Migrant Youth Leadership Program (MYLP). CMGJ continued its role as a Steering Committee Member in the Civil Society Working Group on Youth, Peace, and Security.
