Global Peace Foundation (GPF) Tanzania works on, among others, gender-responsive prevention of violent extremism and gender-based violence. In 2022, under the umbrella of Sisters Without Boarders Network, GPF Tanzania engaged men and women in preventing and responding to violent extremism and supported their meaningful participation in peace and security processes within their communities. The project was implemented in the Bagamoyo district in Tanzania. Activities included raising community awareness of human rights, and dialogues to enhance women’s participation in the Violence Prevention and Peace Sustainability (VPPS). 103 women and 2 men were trained on women’s rights and addressing GBV, leadership in relation to roles in VPPS structures, and conflict analysis, management, resolution and women’s influence in peace sustainability.
Through Uniting to End Gender-Based Violence in Sports project, GPF Tanzania together with Football Federation of Tanzania Mainland, Zanzibar Football Federation, Tanzania Women Football Association, Coaches Associations and Sports’ Doctors Associations formulated a National Technical Working group and developed a safeguarding prototype guidelines policy to protect women, girls, and other vulnerable people in sports against GBV. The guidelines were endorsed and adopted by the targeted women’s football teams and have increased the effectiveness of protection, and accountability to prevent GBV in women’s football sport.
