WPS-HA Compact Board Convened its First Hybrid Meeting in Pretoria

On 8 December 2022, the Women, Peace and Security and Humanitarian Action Compact Board convened its first hybrid meeting in Pretoria, South Africa on the margins of the Women, Peace and Security Focal Points Network Inter-Regional Meeting. The Board meeting was hosted by the Government of South Africa, a Compact signatory, followed by a working lunch hosted by the Embassy of Norway to South Africa.

The meeting was chaired by the newly appointed Compact Board Co-Chairs, Norway and the Global Network of Women Peacebuilders (GNWP), along with UN Women as the Compact Secretariat. The Board took stock of progress made in 2022, identified 2023 priorities and activities for the Compact, and agreed on a timeline for the Compact’s first accountability report to be issued in the second half of 2023.

The Compact Board agreed on continued support for regional meetings to build momentum for the Compact. Board members also pledged to engage their networks and partners to facilitate transformative multi-stakeholder action on women, peace and security and gender-responsive humanitarian action, and to mobilize new Compact signatories.

The Compact Board will continue strategic discussions in March 2023 on the margins of the 67th Session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW67).
