WPS-HA Compact’s Advocacy Scorecard for the Pact for the Future

On September 22 and 23, 2024, global leaders gathered in New York City for the first-ever Summit of the Future to adopt the resulting Pact for the Future, which includes key actions to accelerate progress on the Sustainable Development Goals and a range of issues including peace and security, gender equality, and youth and future generations.

The WPS-HA Compact has been highly engaged in advocacy around the Pact and efforts to ensure the inclusion of the Women, Peace and Security agenda and gender-responsive humanitarian action. During the 68th session of the Commission on the Status of Women in March 2024, the Compact held a symposium to identify key recommendations from UN member states to help inform the Pact. Several Compact signatories also attended the UN Civil Society Conference in Nairobi in May 2024 to contribute to discussions and share recommendations ahead of the Summit of the Future. The Compact’s Board and Catalytic Members meeting held in July 2024 also gathered further recommendations to help guide advocacy efforts in the lead-up to the Summit and the adoption of the final version of the Pact.

The WPS-HA Compact advocacy scorecard for the Pact for the Future showcases the recommendations on WPS and gender-responsive humanitarian action presented by the Compact, as well as their level of inclusion in the adopted Pact. Specific actions outlined in the Pact’s final text are labeled green when the inclusion of Compact recommendations was satisfactory, yellow when they were somewhat satisfactory, and red for recommendations that were not considered or included.
